The Lakisama board consists of Myrthe van der Plas (chairman), Annemieke van Beek (treasurer) and Simon Lok (secretary).
Our financial advisor is Henk Pieter den Boer. Jan-Willem Feilzer and Dejan Davidovic have joined the team in July 2019 as a volunteer and are currently building our new website.
Local support in Kenya is provided by our volunteers Oliver and Miriam Mandila.
One of our board members, Myrthe, worked six months for PwC Kenya in 2018/2019. During the weekends, she volunteered in Tree House Children's Family orphanage. In order to help the children financially, she reached out to friends, family and colleagues. The response was overwhelming and gave her the chance to pay the outstanding school fees of five children, and uniforms and school supplies for all children of this orphanage.
However, Myrthe’s personal network was limited, and as she wanted her actions to impact a larger group of children, she realised she needed to think bigger and set up Lakisama Foundation with Annemieke and Simon. At the same time her PwC Kenya colleague Oliver and his wife Miriam, happy with the initiative, offered to support the foundation on a voluntary basis.
Our capacity to act
Our foundation has been officially registered in accordance with the Dutch law. Decisions will be taken by a simple majority of the board. As yet, we do not have a supervisory board, but we might consider this as a future option in case structural advise is needed about questions relating expansion, fundraising etc.
Our board members do not receive any form of remuneration.
Our sole operational costs are the reimbursement of expenses made by our local volunteers, like phone or travelling costs and local costs made in the Netherlands needed to collect funds, like the costs of a bank account and hosting our website.
